LuckGrib is a fully featured, easy to use, fast GRIB reader, viewer, downloader and weather router. Remote access to weather data via satellite. Advanced weather routing capabilities, for sailors, is available. Weather forecast data, packaged as GRIB files, can be downloaded directly from the LuckGrib server cluster. Downloads are available via: a direct high speed internet connection, or through the Iridium GO! as well as through the RedPort Optimizer. For sailors, LuckGrib offers a best-in-class, complete solution: industry leading visualization and ease of use, highly optimized weather data downloads via satellite, along with industry leading optimized weather routing and route analysis. Inshore sailors may not require satellite downloads, but will benefit from the rest of the system. LuckGrib is unique among apps that were originally designed for sailors, in that the weather analysis tools are powerful enough to attract attention from meteorologitsts. For sailors, meteorologists, and all weather enthusiasts, LuckGrib offers access to a wide range of high resolutions models, a number of global models, weather data at the surface, 850mb, 500mb and 250mb levels, parameters ranging from simple things such as wind, pressure and temperature, to more advanced quantities such as simulated radar, standard deviations, precipitable water, lightning, vertical vorticity, helicity and more. LuckGrib is a thoroughly modern and advanced GRIB viewer. LuckGrib provides access to many weather and ocean models, including global models such as GFS and ECMWF along with many high resolution models, which vary according to the region you are interested in. In the USA, there is the HRRR, NAM, NBM and many others. In Europe there is Icon-EU, Arpège, Arome, the Danish DINI and others. There are several ocean current models, such as the global RTOFS and Mercator Ocean, along with regional higher resolution models such as OFS, NCOM, CMEMS and others. The LuckGrib weather routing system is an industry leading, high quality, robust, high performance and comprehensive system. The LuckGrib isochronal Weather Routing solver has many unique features, such as being able to respect constraints (points that must be left to port or starboard,) deal with routes which require you to heave-to, outstanding visualization and interactivity features, and much more. LuckGrib comes with a 14 day free trial, or free access to reduced resolution downloads (LuckGrib Lite) for users who do not require access to the most accurate data. If you are interested in studying weather and gaining access to detailed weather forecasts, download the app and give it a try. Downloading data via satellite requires the Offshore Data in-app purchase. Access to the isochronal weather routing system requires an in-app purchase. Note that LuckGrib does not use a subscription pricing model - after the free trial, when you decide to purchase the app, there will be a one time charge, not an ongoing subscription. Extremely versatile tool for weather analysis and passage planning and routing. It’s not as automatic as PW, but is faster and offers better control of parameters and views. A great value for serious sailors.

Herausragendes Weather - Routing !!

After 40,000 miles of using “big brand” apps that require a monthly subscription I couldn’t be happier with LuckGrib. PAY ONCE USE FOREVER. The layout and usability is very easy once you spend a few minutes with the included tutorials and from there it just gets better and better!

A very complex complete app. It gives the used a easy to understand view for routing for a offshore voyage. I have used the routing feature on some local 1-2 day trips and find it to be quite accurate and easy to follow. Pretty steep learning curve (very complex subject) but excellent YouTube videos aided me in basic understanding.

Used this for over a year sailing the Med to plan multi day and overnight passages. Works really well.

A weather routing function that allows me to set individual waypoints (to be passed on starboard or port) for regattas, for example, and enable routing along these waypoints. This would be a very helpful function for medium-length regattas (~400 nm) that are held as circuits in the Adriatic Sea.

a multi-object constraint sequences option where i could select side (bb vs. stb) and order of these objects would be a nice to have option for mid-range racing

Having used LuckGrib on a long-range cruise this year, I can only recommend this app. The models it relies on offer the best-possible forrcasting quality. The app provides for an easy access by simplifying the initial configuration (area, data points) and making updates as easy as klicking a single button. The meteogram and the time slider allow for understanding developments of conditions. What is missing though is the ability to bulk access the raw files for archiving purposes, or for downloading the files via iPad and then doing additional analysis on the Mac (or vice versa). Anyway, a clear buy!

This app is very well done. You can see there was a lot of analysis and reflection from a sailor perspective put into this. I’m just amazed how usage and popularity didn’t explode more yet. It became my weather analysis and routing companion for my passages either ocean or coastal. Thanks a lot for this work.

This is a minor update, mostly to keep in sync with the Mac version after an update was required there.

This update has some small and subtle changes scattered throughout the app, as well as a few larger items. Some of the notable changes are: * The default draw styles have been updated to reflect all of the changes on the servers over the past little while. * The Weather Routing tool allows for more flexibility in its GRIB display modes, so, for example, you can view Simulated Radar while evaluating a generated route. * The Weather Routing solver has an additional advanced mode to control the time step, where you specify the minimum and maximum step allowed, and the solver makes adjustments according to the results it is seeing. This should be of use to sailors in constrained waters. * GPX import has improved in various ways. For example, when importing a route via a GPX file, you now have the option of changing the route into a Weather Routing boundary or constraint sequence. * There is now support for route decimation (point reduction) which can be useful if exporting a Weather Route to a device which can not handle too many points. * Polar file export is now supported. Please read the release notes for additional details (available toward the bottom of the Settings area in the sidebar.)
