the program is awesome. It a ton of settings. Be careful when changing things or you might might not have it work the you want it to. It is still the best podcast program in the apple universe.

I’ve been using this app exclusively for podcasts since 2017 and it’s so good that I’ve never once even thought about using something else. It’s well worth the price.

Downcast is a podcast powerhouse. I’ve used it for many many years, dozens of podcasts, thousands of episodes, and it just *works*. Lots of thoughtful design touches, but what I really value is having something I can actually rely on, every day, and not have to think about. Thank you, Downcast, never change!

I’ve used this app since 2009. I have tried dozens of other IOS and android podcast players. None of them have the clean and intuitive interface of this one. Things Downcast does better than others in my experience -no ads or forced recommendations -no features hidden behind a paywall -no user data collection that I’m aware of -no requests for donations (there’s an option to if you want, but no pop up) -ability to import files from other apps or over USB -adapts interface for iPad -highly detailed/granular controls for individual podcasts and playlist Many apps I have used don’t make it easy to automatically download all new episodes, but rely on having a wireless data connection to play your media. Downcast apps s the best for anyone who wants reliable offline listening. Downcast is closer to a media library manager like VLC than it is the modern podcast applications. But it also manages podcasts as good as anything else. The only downside for some people that I can think of would be if you really care about the new podcasting 2.0 protocols, there are new features coming out for podcasts that allow notifications of live broadcasts, listening to live broadcast, and sending donations for both lives and downloaded episodes. I do not believe that the app supports these at the time of this review, but those are not features that I care about except for the donation option.

This could be a good podcast player if they fixed its complete inability to search for podcasts, and the inexplicable delay in getting new episodes. Or, perhaps they still feel the need to treat us like children with curated and “approved” podcasts only? Can we please just stop this?

I had been a very happy pocket cast user for years. Then it introduced banner advertising across a quarter of the screen unless you had a monthly subscription. Sadly time to look for something else. Paid for Dreamcast and very happy with it. Great app.

I’ve loved Downcast for many years. The control over downloading and retaining episodes, with overrides for individual podcasts, is great and easy to use. I just wish it had a queue!

It's not bad and for no other reason than thr fact that it's not subscriptio, it's superior to most of the other podcast players but the interface isn't great and settings not clear to me. For example I just want to stream and have it remember my spot and rarely download and I can't figure out how to do that. Secondly and even more importantly, the volume is almost half of my previous podcast player. I don't know why that is but I often miss things because the max volume is too low. Including on Bluetooth speakers.

Allows for more customization than any other app I’ve tried. It just works and has worked well for years. The feature I appreciate the most is the ability to bypass ads at the start and end of podcasts by setting when the podcast should start and stop playing (e.g., skip the first 1:05 when playing the podcast) both globally and for individual podcasts. The UI (visually, not organizationally) could use an update, but it’s an app for listening, so not a big deal
