SharkSmart WA is Western Australia’s official source of shark activity information. It also includes beach safety features such as Surf Life Saving WA patrolled beaches and weather forecast, to help you plan your trip to the beach. The app will help you switch on your Sea Sense by providing near real-time information of shark activity including current alerts and warnings. Select your favourite coastal locations and use notifications to receive relevant updates as they happen. SharkSmart WA Features: Map Filter and display shark activity and beach safety features including the locations of shark monitoring receivers, beach enclosures, and Beach Emergency Numbers (BEN) signage. Explore and save your favourite coastal locations to stay up to date of recent shark activity. Updates Stay informed of shark activity, including current alerts and warnings. Information is prioritised into ‘Nearby’, ‘Your Favourites’ and ‘Other Locations’, giving you the most relevant information first. Report Using location services, the app can provide you with information about your current coastal location. Use the details provided and the quick call link to report shark sightings or whale carcasses (which are known to attract sharks) to Water Police as soon as possible. Information within the SharkSmart WA app is designed to help you make an informed decision about your water use and take personal responsibility for your safety. Love the app and use it for all sightings in WA. I use 24 hour notice but some remain in list for more than 12 months which is frustrating.

I like SharkSmart because it tells me where sharks are and when they have been detected or seen so I know where I will be safer to go spear fishing, scuba diving or free diving.

I was looking for shark sightings in New Haven, Harbor, and Cape Cod however, when I fill in the search, nothing happens. Also, when I tap on the map, nothing happens.

Alerts and warnings aren’t listed in date order so a couple of months of listings can be Higglety Pigglety!

Upon being triggered can the app please also state - ID the shark number, - when tagged, - size (m) when tagged. This assists the public in determining risk which is the point of the app, fir example - are alerts one shark staying in an area ir passing through or several sharks? Please update or advise why this can’t be done given you have this information already.

Why on earth have I just received notification of a shark incident that happened on 23 Jan. Today is the 26th. Not the first time this has happened.

I am part of a regular morning swim group of open water swimmers at Cowaramup Bay. I look at updates on Shark Smart every morning before I head to the beach. It certainly impacts on if and where I swim. Really useful.
