Your sailing companion app

Boatie is an invaluable source of information for all who enjoy recreational boating in UK coastal waters. Developed and used by a keen sailor, after 13 years it remains the popular choice and 'go-to' app of thousands. Features: • 'Port' display for over 700 primary and secondary ports from UK and the Channel Islands. This gives you a tide table for the next 7 days, along with a meteogram of 3 hourly weather forecasts and daylight times, position relative to closest springs or neaps and moon phase. For 400 ports, there is a tidal curve prediction for the current day. This is extendable to the full 7 days through an upgraded subscription. With the curves you can see the height predicted for any time - or visa versa. • Tidal Streams for 7 days. Pan and zoom the map to show your preferred area, and scroll along the time. Touch and hold to see the forecasted set and drift. This data covers the UK coastline except the north of Scotland, Outer Hebrides, Orkneys and Shetland Isles (i.e. roughly north of the Caledonian canal) • Weather: the current Inshore and Shipping forecasts, and synoptic charts for Northern Atlantic and NW Europe. • Navigation: displays your current GPS position, speed-over-ground, course-over-ground as well as distance and heading to user-configurable waypoints. Waypoints can be imported or exported as GPX files and ordered within the file to allow quick switching to the next waypoint. A built-in compass shows the direction to the current waypoint. • Reference: a useful set of information easily to hand whether you're out on the water or doing your theory course. It currently includes: - Day shapes - Navigation lights - Sound signals - Beaufort scale - Forecast terminology - Inshore forecast areas map - Signal flags & phonetic alphabet - VHF Channel usage - IALA A Buoyage An internet connection is required for some features, although the data is then cached for short periods for use whilst out sailing. In practice, for weather you should aim to have a connection twice a day - and for tides every other day. So, next time you are meeting the crew in the pub for planning your weekend, or when you're out enjoying it, take Boatie to have the key information you need with you on your iPhone. Please do let me know your feedback - I'm always very grateful for the positive reviews entered in the app store - it's a great way of showing your appreciation and helps reassure others about to purchase. However, if you have questions, find problems or have suggestions for future improvements please use the facilities in the app to contact me Boatie - Terms & Conditions: https://msswsolutions.com/boatie-terms-and-conditions/ Apple EULA: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/ }

Boatie has always been terrific for yacht racing, so much live data easy to hand - even COG and SOG For a few years Boatie seemed to be unsupported and they never replied to emails, but I stuck with it and now it is alive and great again I’d love to get Solent marks auto updated, linked to SCRA But still like Boatie best

The app has been very helpful navigating the English Channel and Channel Islands. A little glitchy at times with the tide direction but I’m sure that will be sorted out.

Works on iPhone and iPad- I am not sure how I would manage without this excellent aid. I have been using it almost from its birth. Very well done.

Just purchased this app as I wanted to show Neap And Spring tides on my Home Screen as a widget. I’m boat crew for the RNLI so wanted this for obvious reasons. Straight away noticed the tide height is wrong - by 0.7m which makes a difference. Just given over £10 away!

I previously had this app on an old iPad and just started a new subscription on my new ish iPhone 13. I managed to register for the new subscription and have paid the annual fee however the app keeps hanging at the opening screen and I am completely unable to access the app. I have uninstalled and reinstalled three times and am completely unable to access. I don’t know what has happened and I am very sad because this app used to be great. I also can’t find a way to request a refund, v frustrating.

Most of us leave our Reed’s Almanac on our boats. This app is invaluable for planning everything (including weather forecasts and tidal predictions) you need when away from our boats. It’s also run by a real person who is actually interested in suggestions. Cannot recommend it more highly…

Spring and Neap Tide Forecasting Improved: Forecast Spring and Neap tides are now calculated using predicted mean tidal ranges, supplemented by moon phase data. For most ports, this won’t result in noticeable changes. However, at locations with complex tidal behaviour (such as double highs/lows or shallow water distortions), you may notice slightly different dates compared to previous versions of Boatie. This update improves the accuracy of tide cycle predictions in challenging environments. It also has a few bug fixes and general performance improvements.

v5.12.10 - Bug fixes v5.12.9 - Addition of map scale ornament to the interactive atlas. Bug fixes. v5.12.8 - Fix for issue with port selection screens affecting some customers. v5.12.7 - Minor bug fixes v5.12.6 - Enhancements to messaging notifications and a few layout updates to make the messages more prominent. v5.12.3 ... v5.12.5 - Bug fixes and performance improvements. v5.12.2 - in this update, a few more things requested by Boatie customers. The UK marine forecast summary now includes the general synopsis and the Apple Watch app includes tidal events for full days instead of providing a partial day when events have already occurred. Also some minor bug fixes and performance improvements v5.12.1 - introduces the ability to import and create .gpx files formatted as a waypoint list or route. This increases the chances that files created in other 3rd Party apps can be successfully used by Boatie. Also has a few minor layout and performance updates. Version 5.12.x New features: - NMEA 0183 Receiver: Experimental feature for 'Premium' subscribers - the ability to receive NMEA 0183 messages from your boat. - Jump to Date: Premium users can now tap on the date on a Port screen to skip directly to a day (rather than having to scroll through curves one by one) - Landscape Tidal Curve: Standard and Premium subscribers (running iOS 17+) can now view a larger tidal curve with more detail by turning their phone to a landscape orientation. iPad users also now have the option to view the expanded curve day by day. Bug fixes and improvements: - Tidal Stream arrow sizes have been tweaked based on map zoom level to help prevent congestion when displaying in some areas during Springs. Change your preferred tidal arrow zoom level in the 'Settings' page under the 'Tidal Streams' tab. - Fixed a bug with the display of the timezone label affecting a small number of users who had previously chosen to ignore DST for the legacy version of the Port screen. - Fixed a rare issue that caused some tide events in tide tables to appear within the wrong day when they occurred very close to midnight. - The Sea State is now included in the spoken version of the Inshore and Shipping forecasts - Various layout tweaks for better clarity and other minor fixes.
