'Which one do you prefer?' is a tool for decision making. Imagine that we are thinking of going out to eat tonight. But where should we go? 1) Italian, 2) Sushi bar, 3) Curry restaurant, or 4) actually, eat at home (Who will cook?). Imagine also that we decided to adopt three cats, but there are eight candidate cats. Which three cats should we adopt? You may have experienced difficulty in comparing multiple things and ranking them in order of your subjective preference. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe is one possible way to cope with such difficulty, but psychologists have utilized a method called the 'paired comparison' in their psychological studies. The paired comparison method is a procedure to break down a simultaneous comparison of multiple candidates into multiple comparisons of paired candidates. Obviously, comparing only two candidates is easier than comparing all candidates at once. But one drawback in this method is that we have to compare all possible paired combinations of candidates in a round robin fashion. More candidates result in more paired comparisons. For example, we have to compare 28 pairs to reveal our subjective ranking of eight cats. This App reveals your subjective rankings of any kind of candidate items based on a paired comparison method. You can record a name, features, and a photo for each item and compare them systematically.}
