Adjustable ultrasonic sounds
Description (
Characters: 1191 of 4000
)
If you're tired of all kinds of insects and critters, we present this app with different adjustable Ultrasonic sounds in order to try to scare off and drive away annoying mosquitoes, insects, and critters in general. Features: - Different insects and critters: Use it against mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches, or rats. - Select the frequencies: You'll have the option to select different types of frequencies for each type of insect or critter. How to use it? At the beginning of the app, we will show you a brief summary of how this tool works. Just select the insect you want to fight off and then select the ultrasound frequency you would like to use. What are ultrasonic sounds? Ultrasounds are a series of mechanical waves, generally longitudinal, whose frequency is above the hearing capacity of the human ear. Informational note: It has not been 100% scientifically proven that these low-frequency sounds can scare off insects or other critters, but there have been cases in which they have been helpful for scaring them away. Didn’t work for me. Asked the almighty ChatGPT and received this interesting response: Alright — you’ve stepped into one of those “sounds too good to be true” tech claims. Here’s the quick science: • Ultrasonic pest repellers are controversial. The idea is that certain insects (and sometimes rodents) can detect high-frequency sounds humans can’t hear, and it bothers them enough to leave. • For flies specifically, there’s little to no reliable evidence that any sound frequency—12, 15, 20, 21, or 22 kHz—will consistently repel them. Most research says flies navigate more by vision, smell, and air movement than sound. • The ranges you listed (12–22 kHz) are on the low end of ultrasonic. Humans can sometimes hear up to ~20 kHz, so some of these may still be faintly audible to you, but flies? They’re not known to respond predictably to them. Likely reality: • It’s not entirely fraud in the sense that the phone will emit a tone at those frequencies. • But it’s mostly marketing hype, because in field tests, ultrasonic fly repellents don’t significantly reduce fly activity. If you want the best shot with what you’ve got: • Try 20–22 kHz, since that’s higher-pitched and more likely to be in the range some insects might detect. • But don’t expect miracles—physical deterrents (fan breeze, traps, or even a cheap fly swatter) are way more reliable. If you want, I can explain why flies aren’t really listening to your iPhone in the first place—it’s kind of fascinating. Alright, let’s break down why flies aren’t exactly tuning into your iPhone. 1. How Flies Hear (or Don’t) Flies don’t hear sound the way we do. They don’t have ears in the traditional sense. Instead, they rely on sensory hairs (called sensilla) on their bodies to pick up vibrations from their environment. They’re more attuned to air movement and pressure changes than actual sound waves. • The sensory hairs can pick up vibrations in the air, like changes in pressure or wind from a loud sound, but that’s not really the same as hearing. • In other words, while they can sense the effect of loud sounds or vibrations, they don’t necessarily react to them like, say, a dog would to a high-pitched whistle. 2. Flies’ Communication and Sensory Input Flies are more focused on chemical signals (smells) and visual cues than on sound. For example: • Visual: Flies are constantly scanning for movement. If they see a predator (or even just someone swatting at them), they’re fast to react with a quick escape. • Chemical: They’re all about detecting smells. In fact, flies use their antennae to sniff out food and mates from a long distance. The pheromones they emit or detect are far more critical to their behavior than sound. 3. The Role of Ultrasonic Sound in Other Insects While mosquitoes and some other pests might be more sensitive to ultrasonic frequencies, it’s because they use sound in a different way. Mosquitoes, for example, have specialized organs that can sense high-pitched sounds used in mating calls or danger alerts. But flies? Not so much. They just don’t process sound the same way. Their primary defense mechanisms are flight and rapid evasion based on movement and visual cues, rather than escaping by sound. 4. So Why Do These Ultrasonic Repellers Exist? The theory is that certain frequencies might irritate pests in some way, causing them to flee. But since flies rely on their sight and smell, any sound in the ultrasonic range isn’t likely to be a big factor in their decision to fly away. It’s all about the vibration or pressure changes rather than actual sound reception. 5. What’s Likely Happening with the App The ultrasonic frequency emitted by the app might produce some physical vibrations or disturbances in the air, but flies won’t necessarily perceive these as threats. They’re far more concerned with the things they can see or smell. So, while you might feel like it’s “working” just because the sound is playing, it’s probably not having much of an impact on your fly situation. ⸻ If you’re really trying to outsmart those flies, a mix of traps, keeping food covered, and some strategic swatting is probably more effective. I think your iPhone just isn’t the weapon of choice in this battle!
