English version of Bloups!
Description (
Characters: 3350 of 4000
)
Bloops! was created to learn to read with pleasure. This playful application was designed by two teachers who specialized in learning difficulties and troubles. Description of educational content: 1) Our learners will learn to read across the different levels. Our approach combined the evidence-based data including the science of reading with some of the fundamental principles of a speech therapy approach such as sound confusions. 2) Chronometer (optional) The chronometer allows the player to improve his reading time and improve his reading fluency. 3) Structured visual cue (energy vial) The energy vial indicates to the player the number of items successfully completed and the number of items remaining. Behind the monstrous Bloops! concept: Annie Lussier, B.Ed., developed the original pedagogical concept. Mrs. Lussier owns her own private learning support clinic (Clinique Apprendre!) and she has been working in the private sector for more than 20 years. She is also a board game author for Passe-Temps publishing. She gives conferences and workshops to teachers and parents. Manon Bellefleur, B.Ed. is the author of the English version of Bloops! She is currently completing her master degree in education specializing in learning difficulties and troubles. She has been teaching in the public sector for 16 years. She also worked as a co-author and pedagogical advisor for several publishing houses and as a research assistant at UQTR. Developed by two educational professionals, the progression of each level respects the stages of syllabic reading acquisition. Bloops! offers a fair, reasonable and motivating challenge that considers each learner’s progress. The focus is primarily on recognizing simple sounds and words while addressing sound confusions. Bloops! combines the progression of English reading with certain fundamental principles of speech therapy. Parents and education specialists are interested in this playful educational application because it targets beginner and intermediate readers. It is also recommended for young learners with reading difficulties or disorders (e.g., dyslexia, autism, etc.). Game objective: The player must listen to the sounds or words given orally and identify the correct answer among the bubbles offered by the monsters. After 5 successes, the player earns a 5 seconds gameplay page and after 20 successes (vial filled), the player is led to discover a new monster with increased reading complexity. For the reading learners, the goal is to collect as many monsters as possible and improve their own time when replaying a monster! With Bloops!, learning to read becomes monstrously fun!
