Description (

The Gruffalo returns to the deep, dark woods with a state of the art augmented reality app! Children can interact with all The Gruffalo characters in 3D – waving, stomping, flying, dancing and roaring - as they appear magically beside them. These wonderful moments can be filmed and photographed to cherish later and share on social media with the hashtag #GruffaloSpotters. The Gruffalo Spotter 2 has been designed for exclusive use at Forestry England sites. The app is free, has no in app purchases and requires downloading before your visit. **We recommend you fully charge your device before your visit. To get the longest battery life whilst on the trail you could consider turning Airplane Mode on and Bluetooth off.** The Gruffalo Spotter 2 has been developed for iOS 11 and later on iPhone (6s and above), iPad Pro and iPad 2017+. Previous versions of these devices will not be fully supported. Please email office@magiclightpictures.com if you experience any technical difficulties. Find your nearest trail at www.forestryengland.uk/gruffalo-spotters Brought to you by Magic Light Pictures and Forestry England, The Gruffalo Spotter 2 app is cutting edge technology developed and animated by the award-winning Nexus Studios. Based on The Gruffalo, the best-selling picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, families follow clues on an interactive trail and track signs for their favourite characters. The self-led trail is packed with fun facts about the forest animals with fantastic activities along the way. Once families have spotted the characters, they can use the app to bring the 3D character animations to life, interact with the characters and film and take photographs of the experience. Videos and photos are automatically added to the device’s gallery. Taking family forest walks to new heights, the app mixes new technology with the real world, encouraging children to get exploring, firing their imaginations and giving them a forest experience like no other. A Gruffalo Spotters 2 trail pack will be available to buy on site which includes an activity leaflet full of fun facts and activities, Gruffalo Mask and paws, a nature spotters game, stickers as well as a crayon and pencil. Such a lovely idea, how unfortunately I couldn’t get 2 of the animals in Dalby forest to work at all, and it ate battery despite being on aeroplane mode.

Downloaded this app is a great idea my nearly 5 year old loved it. Easy to use 3 downsides to the app though it drains my phone battery life and hen never had a problem before!... 2nd is my son loved it but he wanted to keep seeing him self would be a great idea to have camera having two options with the pointing to face as son wanted to see and was hard to take photos... 3rd is took photos but didn’t no where they were stored too lucky realised after the first marker and decided to screen shot instead but was still hard to do would of been nice to have the original pictures and video tho. 3 stars as the idea is great and son did love it

WORST GAME EVER. The foot prints were hard to catch into the camera, when we could; the screen froze between each screen play and went of the app😢.We think the problem with this was the internet and it is not very good in a forest. It’s a pleasure for you to read this review on GRUFFALO SPOTTERS 2 (aka: The non-working confusing Gruffalo app😖)

Tried at Beechenhurst, Forest of Dean and a couple of them didn’t work. Tried to capture from various angles with no success. A real shame.

Crashed a few times, no idea where the pictures went, kept losing the animation, the actions didn't work... Shame because it was great in the bits where it did work.

Great idea, but seems to freeze/crash if screen locks during any activity, and also seemed to cause a total battery drain from full charge in under 90 mins (phone’s never done that before) despite most of that time phone being locked with screen off. Hard to explain to a 2 year old that we can’t see the gruffalo because the battery has mysteriously run out.

We were so excited to try the app with our toddler. Had a few problems with crashing but the wood we were in, Beechenhurst, had poor signal for our phone (EE). Took videos and photos all the way round but none saved to our phone. Tried again with a couple of animations, looked like everything worked ok and then disappointed to find we had no pics or video when we got home. It’s a great idea, just disappointed it didn’t work for us

App starts, camera comes on, goes jerky for a few seconds, hangs then crashes.

Used the app today at Wendover woods. It’s very simple to use and has some nice graphics, however it would be much better if you use it in selfie mood- my toddler wanted to see the screen and be in the photos and that’s not possible without being able to use the front camera. 2nd the animation have a tendency to stop if you move off the “circle print” which is a pain as with kids you’re constantly moving! It would be better if once launched the animations lasted a few minutes.
