Ordnance Survey® map data
Description (

* Unlimited free map downloads based on Ordnance Survey® OpenData, at 1:25,000 and 1:10,000 scales, and now also paid map downloads at 1:50,000, 1:25,000 and 1:10,000 scales, just like the paper maps. * 3D mode ideal for mountains. * Maps downloaded and saved for off-line use. * Mark waypoints, plan routes and record tracks. * Import and export GPX files. * Plot graphs of altitude and speed. * View your photos on the map. * Off-line place, street name and postcode search. After installing the app, please touch the '?' button to view instructions including how to download detailed maps. Northern Ireland is not included. The Isle of Man is included only at 1:250,000 (free) and 1:50,000 (paid). The Channel Islands are not included. Since 2010, Britain's national mapping agency Ordnance Survey has released a large amount of free map data. UK Map makes much of that data available in a single app. It includes 1:1M MiniScale® and 1:250k road maps, which are built into the app, and 1:25k district maps and 1:10k street maps for the entire country which you can download in 5km by 5km tiles. As the free O.S. data does not include footpaths, this app superimposes footpaths derived from volunteer-collected data from OpenStreetMap.org. These downloads are free of charge. In addition to the free maps, you can also purchase and download 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 maps that are just like the Ordnance Survey paper maps. You can also purchase 1:10,000 maps for selected urban areas which show more detail than the free 1:10,000 maps. Once you've downloaded the detailed maps that you need, an internet connection is not required. The app can load GPX files (for example, from websites, other apps and from nearby devices via AirDrop) and display waypoints, tracks and routes. You can also mark waypoints, plan routes and record tracks within the app, and export them. You can view graphs of altitude or speed along recorded tracks and routes. The app has a 3D mode that lets you view the terrain from any viewpoint, useful for visualising hills and mountains. The app also includes a searchable gazetteer containing over 250,000 place names, 850,000 street names and 1.6 million post codes. All of this data is built in to the app, so this search also works when there is no network connection. The app also supports the compass and GPS - on those devices that have them - to display your position, orientation and altitude. Paid maps are licensed for personal and non-commercial use only. I’ve been using UK map for many years and it has served me well around the SWCP, West Highland Way and up numerous mountains in Scotland and Wales. It’s a good value option.

Pay for the app and you get Rasta maps that are virtually useless. There are better and more functional navigation and map apps available.

Can’t restore purchases so it’s useless. Look elsewhere and don’t waste your money.

I like maps and have looked at lots of map apps but this is the one for walking, cycling etc in the UK. It is one of the main reasons I have stayed with iOS. I wrote that review a few years ago and this is still my favourite map app for the UK.

It’s difficult to know why anyone would use any other mapping app for iOS - whether for work or play. Not only is UKMap the most straightforward and stable mapping software available - but it’s amazingly cheap. If you are after mapping pure & simple in GB this is only app you’ll ever need - unless you really want to waste lots if cash supporting expensive map app companies that are desperately trying to become intrusive social media sites. It is also one of the best apps for undertaking any fieldwork using point data - the gpx import/export function makes data transfer insanely straightforward and reliable compared to most overpriced garbage out there masquerading as ‘professional’ field recording apps (I’m looking at you, ESRI). The 3D function works wonderfully and is a tremendous asset when visualising terrain for planning (it is particularly spectacular on larger iPads). Even though UKMap is a one-man band, the developer Phil is fantastic at responding to queries- puts the Big Boys & Girls to shame. Keep it up!

As far as I can tell at least. Which is a pity because it does provide access to OS maps with proper rights of way information so if that’s all you want, it may be the right answer. However, if you need support due to the very thin instructions, choose something else. The big problem is that your in-app purchases are not refundable so if you purchase a load of maps you could end up hundreds of pounds worse off once you discover they are not usable due to the current faults, or any ones that develop in the future on this abandoned app.

This is a truly great app. I used it whilst on holiday. For £7.99 you get the whole UK down to 1 to 10,000. I found it brilliant for sitting in the passenger seat navigating by and also having the town maps for the places I visited was great. You have to download the maps you require before hand so you have to plan what you need but there are then no connection issues whilst traveling. I have always loved using OS maps in their paper form when on holiday but this is possibly even better. Well worth the money.

I’ve been a ViewRanger user for years but got annoyed by having to pay a yearly subscription for maps. UK Maps lets you buy the map & that’s it, open app on 10 years and your map is still there. Nice. App works beautifully, UI is intuitive and with every feature you need, track recording, many maps free and paid. Free maps are so good you often don’t need the paid ones. Developer very responsive and helpful.
