Record your car data in background using this App without trusting other third party services that may even drain your cars battery.
A Tesla Car is a Computer of wheels. It provides loads of data and information and can be controlled in many ways.
The original Tesla App is nice and good for what it's supposed to be used.
However, as an IT guy, I was interested to get everything out of the Car, wanted to see what's available and wanted to control what's possible.
But even though there are quite a few Apps available for a Tesla Car, I couldn't find any App that does what I wanted to do.
So I wrote one myself, which is this App, Tesla Explorer.
And here are the features highlights:
■ Works with Model S, 3, X and Model Y
■ Provides ALL Information available from your Tesla like from no other App (e.g. charge to maximum counter, which may affect your warranty)
■ New: Provides long term data for Phantom Drain, Battery Health, Driving efficiency and more analysis
■ New: Offers a customizable Favorite screen to access the most common information and controls of your car
■ Allows direct trip and data recording, analyzing and later playback (without external server!!)
■ Everything which is controllable can be controlled. The App can not just honk the horn or flash the lights
■ Display various reports and graphs on the recorded data
■ look at the raw data coming from your Tesla
■ Replay / playback recordings and watch values and statistics to analyze a drive
■ Data Export of raw data and statistics via E-Mail or iCloud Drive
■ Direct Export e.g. to Numbers or Excel on your iPad or iPhone
■ Supports metric as well as imperial values
■ Supports Fahrenheit and Celsius
■ Supports multiple vehicles under the same account
■ Clear, straight forward User Interface. Doesn't look and feel like a broken website like other Apps
■ Offers HomeLink triggering from anywhere (no other App can do this)
NOTE:
As an IT Security and Network Engineer, I care much about security.
When using the App, you need to enter your Tesla account credentials once, just like for Tesla's own App.
Different to other Apps, my App NEVER stores this sensitive information, not even in the quite secure Key-chain.
Instead, my App uses a technique, provided by Tesla which uses a highly secure Access token.
This way, your credentials will never be needed again and thus, need not to be stored and can not be spoofed or hacked in any way.
Furthermore, if you start recording data from your Tesla, this data is not recorded on a foreign server (like with many other Apps), the data goes straight from Tesla to your iPhone or iPad.
