Suggester is a tool for writing songs and chord progressions. This app will help you find chords that work together. It is efficient and fun; use it to build musical phrases that will carry emotion through tension and release. Select chords for their harmonic function. The app makes full use of the roman numeral notation. Simply touch a chord to hear how it sounds. Press the play button to hear the chord progression sequentially and adjust the playback speed. You can work either forward or backward: FORWARD - Pick a scale, then build your song from the chords that the app suggests. That's the quickest way to assemble chords that are compatible. BACKWARD - From the catalog, pick a set of chords that you like. The app will tell you what scales it matches with. After you have selected the scale you want to use, the app can tell you what chords will fit in with the ones you entered before. That is extremely useful in jam sessions! Pick chords and scales from our huge catalog. To go even further, you can create your own custom scales and custom chords. To spice things up, you can borrow chords from parallel scales. Explore new territories by using modulation. Browse the classic chord progressions to find inspiration. Use Drag and Drop to reorder chords. Hold your finger on an item for a second to start the drag operation. On iPad, you can also drag chords directly from the suggestions to anywhere in your progression. Tap the note button on the left to change the duration. Swipe a chord from right to left to delete it. Export your songs as audio, MIDI or text. Every sound generated with the app is also sent to the MIDI output, configurable in the Options. You can route these notes to another app on your device, an external MIDI port, or remotely to another computer by setting up a MIDI Network Session. You can trigger chords through the MIDI input. Use drag and drop between apps! ChordPadX and Suggester can communicate through drag and drop. You can also drag pads and chords into another app if it supports MIDI drag and drop. Sync up your tempo with other apps with the help of Ableton Link. You can choose between the english notation (C, D, E) and the fixed-do notation (do, re, mi). In the free version, some of these features are locked. Reach full productivity by purchasing a Full Unlock or a Feature Pack. You only need to buy it once for all your iOS devices. To unlock your purchase on another device, select "Restore Purchases" in the Options. The macOS version is sold separately. This is just sad, this sheer unparalleled unprofessional negligence. My apologies for blunty conveying the truth. Wouldn’t want a sincere dev to get bashed for too long.

This app is super helpful for designing chord progressions or just learning a bit about music theory. I love being able to alter chords on a whim and the variety offered is actually insane. I'm excited to try the new version. The guitar feature already has me really excited!

Update: I contacted the developer, and after a very quick response time, he cleared up the issue and now I am happy to say the app works as intended. Thanks Dev!

I have used this app from the date of its first appearance in the App Store and have always appreciated its useful updates. It is a marvel for trying new things quickly and allows you to write easily using the full range of musical notation. Not many apps allow you to turn 2 quarter notes into a dotted quarter and dotted 8th, let alone allow you to do so as easily as this one. I unlocked it years ago. Now, however, there is Suggester 2. From what I can tell, though, Suggester 2 is all but 95% pure Suggester, the remaining 5% being new and interesting progression features that I fear will be unavailable to Suggester users unless they buy the same package a second time. I understand development costs time and money. I would happily buy a standalone progression app from this developer that was priced as a standalone progression app. I'm disappointed, though, that it seems I am expected to buy the same app again to get a few features--as interesting and potentially as they appear to be--that, standing alone, just don't, to my mind, justify Suggester 2's pricing. Unfortunately, I'm also quite sure the developer understood that long term users might react this way and concluded there was more gain moving forward with Suggester 2's format than there was to lose by forcing long term users to either pay again or do without. This is not the first developer to reach that conclusion. If you don't own Suggester, by all means get Suggester 2. Suggester is the bulk of Suggester 2 and it is a terrific, powerful, well-designed app that has numerous useful features you just won't find anywhere else. It's not a toy; it's a true musician's app. I'd eagerly move to Suggester 2 if there was some kind of credit for those of us who helped fund its development. But I didn't see anything to suggest (no pun intended) that there is any kind of upgrade plan. Perhaps I'm wrong. I hope so. Again, Suggester is a terrific app and I'm certain Suggester 2 is everything Suggester is plus more. If you are a musician and you don't own it, get it. It will help you become an even better musician. And isn't that really the only reason to ever download a music app? I'm just a bit disappointed to see things go the direction they've gone.

Great tool for chords and harmonies. Been using the original Suggester since 2018 for original compositions as well as working out transcriptions. This new version Suggester 2 is a nice upgrade and imports the old version files. Excellent response from support as well.

Piano improv and composing in notation are different paradigms. This app helps to bring my ear for piano scale/mode experimentation to my orchestral writing. I just finished a piece where I used the app for the first time. It was an instant workflow enhancement.

You CAN add custom scales w/ more than 7 notes, but this and the save/exit/return from the custom scale screen are confusing. I bought the app, thinking I had to I order to add more intervals. I like the app’s usefulness enough to not really mind. It just wasn’t easy to figure this out.
