Mast is a beautiful Mastodon app built with iOS design guidelines in mind. It’s as feature-packed as it is gorgeous. The stunning timelines make reading the latest content a joy. Mast is also fully optimised for iOS 13 with dark mode and context menu support. It also has Today Extensions, Share Extensions, iMessage Stickers, a Watch app, Siri Shortcuts, and an iPad app. I hope you enjoy using Mast. “What is Mastodon?”, you may ask. It’s a federated and decentralised social network. Think of it as email, where you can choose your provider, yet talk with almost anyone from anywhere regardless of their choices. The instances on Mastodon give users freedom to find their community, whilst allowing everyone to talk with each other with the level of visibility that they want. The content warning feature makes it safer, and the increased character count makes it far more expressible. It’s what microblogging should have always been. War mal gut am Anfang. Wird nicht mehr weiter entwickelt. Homepage/Domain des Entwicklers ist auch inzwischen bei einem Reseller geparkt. Kann man sich also sparen. Schade darum!

Search barely works: I can search for stuff but I can’t tap on results. Having more than one instance (I’ve both pawoo & baraag) causes problems in the app. It crashes sometimes when I switch between instances, & is slow to update timelines when switching. Just crashes a lot... I’d say the official pawoo app is still the best for pawoo. Unfortunately even that app has its own host of problems

This is a promising looking app overall. But it needs work on multiple account support. Although it does support multiple logins, it doesn’t support common features like long-pressing to like, repost, or reply from a different account. It also doesn’t show an indication of which account is active when replying. This is a deal breaker for those of us who like to keep eg., personal, political, and tech discussions on separate accounts. The built-in feedback email address is also bouncing as non-existent as of today, March 29, 2021.

A few days after purchasing it started crashing as soon as the app launched. Gave up. I suppose it has some value in that I can share media to it and create a post. But to view that post I need to fire up a web browser which kind of defeats the purpose.

Sometimes CMD-N just opens a new main window instead of the Toot creation window.

I want to like Mast, but when the rough edges for the app do appear, they’re usually in accessibility features. When I upload a photo to include in a toot, for example, there’s no obvious way to add a caption for screen reader users. I have to somehow know ahead of time to long-press the uploaded image, and even though it says it’s done uploading, I get an error when I try adding a caption saying I need to wait until it’s done uploading, even though I haven’t published the toot yet and the app already showed that the image was uploaded. This doesn’t work even when I save it as a draft, because when you do that it doesn’t save the image with the draft and you have to re-upload it and run into the same error. They got a good dark theme though, but that just reflects the priorities of the app.

Application achetée juste avant qu’elle ne devienne gratuite. Ça c’est pas très grave. Mais les recherches ne fonctionnent pas, donc application vraiment pas utile. J’utilise mon navigateur iPhone car le site est beaucoup plus ergonomique.
