PocketFMS has been providing flight planning and moving map systems since 2003. EasyVFR basic UK edition (formerly known as UK AirspaceAVOID), which has been awarded the NATS ‘Airspace Awareness Compliance Mark’, is a free version of PocketFMS’s popular EasyVFR app, which has been specially designed for pilots flying in the UK. The minimum requirements are an iPad Air or iPhone5. PocketFMS developed EasyVFR basic UK edition specifically to help pilots flying in the UK to avoid unintended entry into airspace or NOTAMed airspace. EasyVFR basic UK edition is free to download and use. Airspace is updated every 28 days and these updates are also totally free. NOTAMs are provided by a live link to EuroControl, ensuring that you have the latest NOTAMs to hand. All NOTAM updates are of course also free. EasyVFR basic UK edition will show your position on the moving map so that you can see your position relative the airspace around you. You will get a warning as you approach an airspace which highlights the airspace boundary that you are approaching and provides you the appropriate call sign and frequency to contact in order to get a clearance to enter. A position tab will give you your current position in a format that makes reporting your position to ATC easy, as well as giving you the frequency and call sign for the most relevant air traffic unit in your area, including a LARS if one is available. A point briefing is generated for you in EasyVFR basic UK edition with up-to-date NOTAMs via a live feed from EuroControl. NOTAMs can easily be reviewed, highlighted and unique to PocketFMS systems, hidden if appropriate. As you fly you will get a warning as you approach a NOTAM that you have not specifically hidden. You can store a copy of your NOTAM briefing in the PocketFMS cloud for later reference. Using PocketFMS’s unique EasyPrint feature you can easily print your briefing from your phone or tablet without the need for a special printer or software. EasyVFR basic UK edition should not be used outside the UK FIRs. Learn more about PocketFMS at our web site and the PocketFMS Forum: http://www.PocketFMS.com http://www.PocketFMS.com/forum}

Hello your map is considerably better than the easy vfr4 map. On easy vfr4 towns like Northampton disappear when panning out . . . very confusing when you are over Northampton and it’s not on your map. Easy vfrBasic shows dual carriageways as motorways which is good; they all look the same from 2000 feet. Again very confusing if you are over the A14 north of Northampton and it’s not on your map. Heavy blue lines around gliding and other unlicensed facilities adds clutter to vfr 4 map Green lines on vfr4 map . . . what are they? . . . more clutter?

Your map is less cluttered than easy var 4. Dual carriageways are shown as motorways on easy basic which is good, they all look the same from 2000 feet. Example the A14 north of Northampton is shown as just a normal road on easy 4. Large towns like Northampton vanish when panning out on easy vfr4, on easy basic they don’t. I am telling all my students to use easy basic, it’s less cluttered, easy to read and considerably less confusing. Alan Mildred. Flying Instructor

For free there’s really nothing to complain about. Would be nice to have the option of just dropping points where you want and/or being able to enter lat/longs. Snapping to reporting points is a bit of a pain.

I use it for now to check NOTAMS. It's great for that. I look forward to using more of it's features the next time I fly.

It would be good to be able to easily input routes. I can’t work out how to do that

The free version on its own is a really good package I import routes from sky demon lite as use a secondary back up to gps and charts. I like it very much.
