Like others have mentioned, the abrupt endings with no turn around are just bad. On top of that there are a lot of wrong chords and awkward changes. Some are exactly the same bad changes from iReal. In some cases the chords in the charts are not what the players are actually playing, for example, the Cmaj7 on Road Song is actually played Cm7, which is the correct chord, and there many other wrong chords in other tunes, like in some of the blues tunes charts are not what the players are actually playing. It seems like lazy programming. I cannot recommend this app to my students and fans. The mix/mastering is also not good or consistent, also noticeable is the out of tune bass in Ain’t No Sunshine.

The idea and backing tunes are awesome. But the UI is so bad it makes this whole app almost unusable and makes me prefer the midi iReal. Changing to tempo is a total pain because the markings are so small and it only changes one tempo point at a time. Then there’s the matter of finding songs. The font colors are poorly chosen so it’s hard to read what you’ve typed out. Also having all the tunes spread out over four apps is so messy. Cool backing tunes but they should’ve had someone spend just as much time in fixing the UI as they spent recording the tunes.

Quartet review The repertoire and musicianship of the tracks are excellent. However, I find the user-interface awkward and counterintuitive. Playlists: I can create a playlist by selecting songs once, but once it’s created, I can only delete songs or re-order them. I cannot add new songs to a playlist once I’ve created it. It appears that playlists are meant to play songs in sequence just like other music-listening apps. But this is not how I want to use playlists. I want to use playlists only for organizing songs that I want to practice to find them easily in one list and pick one and play. But to do that I have to “Edit” the playlist before I can choose the song I want to play. Tempo: To change a tempo, I have to click on the “+” or “-“ buttons repeatedly to change the tempo one BPM at a time. I can’t just type a number I want in an edit window. Contrast in search window: When my iPad is set to dark mode - white text on black background - the insert-cursor, text, and the background of the search window are all dark making it difficult to read what I type. Music Layout: Music is always rendered as two measures per line. I’m used to reading four measures per line for standard 32-bar forms. Look at how iReal displays charts. Window size limit: I cannot resize the window to be smaller than about 90% of my iPad 15 Pro screen. This app’s window doesn’t need to take up so much space. The music chart layout could be much more compact, even if it were to render four measures per line. Again, look how iReal manages rendering a chart when its window is resized. It can be much smaller and still legible. This app has good “bones” but the UI badly needs a redesign to make this app look and interact more like I’ve learned to expect in most other music players, since that is what Quartet is essentially - a music players that specializes in practice tracks curated by its creators. For this reason I give 4 starts instead of 5. I hope its creators will address these issues for the next major release.

First the positives, the tracks sound great a really fun to play along too, and so much better than the midi based tools. Much more dynamic and lifelike. Love it. That said, the interface leaves much to be desired. You can make playlists (which I do a lot to group different sets together) but you can’t actually see the songs listed. It just takes you to the first song and you have to click through each song individually - which can open other bundled apps. Somewhat chaotic and seems like a pretty easy addition and hopefully will be in soon. You can also favorite tracks but I’m not sure where these are even listed. I can’t find it anywhere. And because it’s 4 apps (I got the bundle) it can do some weird things jumping back and forth between when you search a tune. Doesn’t always go to the tune, sometimes just changes apps. Bit rough but I assume they’ll work the kinks out. But the overall quality of tracks -which is the most important - is great.
