This app is for Churchill DriveSure customers with app-only insurance. Unfortunately, it won’t work if you need to have a black box telematics device fitted to your car. DriveSure is our affordable telematics insurance policy, designed to help young drivers get on the road. The app monitors your driving via GPS on your smartphone and enables you to keep track of your driving score, while also providing feedback to help you become a smarter, safer driver. Once you’ve downloaded the app, you will need to register using the details used to purchase your policy. Terms and conditions apply.}

This app and the system they have is very annoying. It records my journeys on my bike and occasionally when I go for a run and if I don’t go on in 72 hours and say it wasn’t a drive I get marked down. The same issue when someone else drives (not juts my car but any vehicle/bus) and if I don’t remember to go on the app every time I get marked down. The system seems a little bit broken after using other systems like a black box in the past to monitor my driving.

There’s a reason why this package is so cheap. There are many flaws. Firstly, the app demands to track your location constantly. I don’t usually allow any apps to track my location as it feels a bit invasive, but, understandably, that is what allows the app to work. So just be aware of what you’re signing up for. The scorecard system is extremely flawed. Short trips with frequent stops at red lights or roundabouts often result in poor marks, telling you to “brake and accelerate more smoothly”. Even after making a conscious effort to do so, the app still scores inconsistently. This is probably because it uses your phones gps (which is rarely 100% accurate at the best of times) to monitor your driving habits. The only time I have received a score above 90 is when I’ve made long journeys on motorways where you stop and start less often. The worst feature in my opinion is how your score is affected by the time of day in which you drive. If you work a typical 9-5, forget about scoring well. Apparently commuting hours are too “high risk”. The app doesn’t like late night drives either, deeming them “dangerous”. Road risk is another flaw. If you live in an area considered “high risk” you’re doomed to have a low score, regardless of how safely you’re driving. I once received a score of 45/100 for a 1 mile journey from my girlfriends house to mine, even though my speed, mobile interaction and smooth driving were all in the green. Speaking of mobile interaction, phone use is also tracked. It sounds fair in theory but it falls short when the app can’t tell the difference between physically handling your phone and using your cars built in controls to answer phone calls. It all docks you points. The only thing this app does moderately well is monitoring speed, but even that relies on your phones gps, which isn’t always accurate. To make matters worse, you have to manually flag when you weren’t the driver. Granted the app wouldn’t know, so it makes sense if you’re a passenger. But what is really silly is that the app can’t tell the difference between a normal drive and a train journey. Miss the 72 hour window to say you weren’t driving and the app assumes it was you hurling through a forest at 100+ mph. After 10 months of use, my score sits at 66/100. Needless to say I will not be renewing my insurance under this package, regardless of it price.

Awful app. Not at all accurate. Marks you down for driving at certain times of the day and also marks you down for driving on roads that are higher accident risk. How do you know what roads to use or not use? Surely if you have driven well with everything else 100% why are you penalised for time and areas you drive?

After having this insurance provider for around a month my driving score has been maintained above 80 although I’ve had a few harsh breaks and acceleration the app only marked them and didn’t clock my score. This app does clock you for using hands free on your steering wheel which is a bit annoying but other than that there isn’t anything else wrong. Other reviews are slightly over the top. I’ve done late night drives where my score hasn’t been great but it hasn’t affected my overall score. UPDATE: After a year of being with drive sure I cannot fault them if you think this insurance company is scoring badly for no reason I’d like to see you all drive with a black box😂. It’s telematics data and although my road risk scores weren’t great I still had an amazing renewal price which is why I’ve gone for them a 2nd year running. Like I said last year. your all being over the top it’s not actually that bad compared to what other insurance providers are offering especially for new drivers.

Having to have location always on is draining the battery from my phone. I’m having to constantly charge it. It is damaging my battery. I can’t even have a while using the app on. It would be better if I could have the option to do that’s why just open the app when I am driving if not it is draining my phone battery and result. I’m missing important phone calls as my phone is running out.

It can’t tell the difference between a walk or a train ride and driving, and therefore requires every trip outside the house to be manually classified. Even a basic AI should be able to tell this.

The app is absolutely useless. Never have I ever tried so hard to get my logins approved when my insurance hits tomorrow. The app is not logging in my details even though everything is correct. How does one go about this. I’ve reset my password. Rebooted my phone. Reinstalled the app. It’s a joke

It seems extremely strict on some categories, particularly the smooth driving. That just shoots up and down, and is particularly frustrating when you GENUINELY have to brake hard, and it assumes that’s you just coming to a stop and braking far too harshly. Also, the fact that journeys automatically register as if you were driving if you don’t do it manually within three days is pretty irritating. I understand there may be no other way to resolve this other than make all journeys require you to register them all yourself, which could be a hassle, but I take the train to university and if I forget to open the app, it reckons I was driving and thus my score (again, particularly smooth driving) zips down into the red zone. Mine typically sticks to the bottom/middle of the green, say 80, 85, but if I don’t use the app for a few days (during which I take the train, get lifts from other people, etc) all my scores shoot down and then I have to consciously drive very robotically and also ensure that I consciously open the app and register the journey after every single drive, regardless of its distance or length.

App has a few glitches like today I was marked low for mobile interaction but my phone was in the bag and the bag wasn’t touched but the app doesn’t tell you where on route it picks this up. You can do the same route and sometimes you are marked down as it’s a high road risk and other times not for same road. It also may not start recording from when you depart. It however is easy to see information and use.
