Including Apple featured Literacy Apps, and in use in 100s of Australian schools, the Oz Phonics app series is Australian made, and designed to build students' literacy skills with a series of step-by-step exercises.
Features:
- Australian Accent – Australian vowel sounds are not the same as American or English accent vowels. New Zealand accent also available in the first 3 apps.
- exercises are designed with minimal distractions - with the exception of the odd letter munching crocodile.
- we provide printable worksheets on our website ozphonics.com and encourage students to use both iPad, and pen and paper as part of the learning process.
- for school use, sample lesson plans are provided on our website ozphonics.com
- Students are first taught to identify the sounds in words (phonemic awareness) and then shown ways of representing those sounds in letters. This method is called synthetic phonics, and research has shown it to be the most effective method of reading instruction.
- our apps do not include reward systems. We encourage teachers/parents to set appropriate rewards, and give personal praise and encouragement where appropriate.
- there are no external links or social sharing in our apps.
