Playset is an intuitive drum and synth sequencer, designed for instant fun and live music. Start with the drums. Add a sneaky bass line, dress it with a fat lead and you've got your song. Adjust the mix, light on the FXs, add a few patterns to the timeline and your song is a hit! Want to connect? Playset supports MIDI, Audiobus, Ableton Link, and is also available as an Audio Unit plug-in. Finally, once your song is done, you can export it in order to share it with the world. One more thing: Playset is brought to you by the team behind DM1 (Apple Design Award winner 2012). So if you liked DM1, you’re going to love Playset! Playset is a premium app, which means that once you’ve bought it, it is entirely yours to use: no in-app purchases or adds! Bass Line, Lead line, Bass Drum, Snare, Closed Hi Hat, Perc Simple but a lovely to use sequencer and one of the easiest To use song or part arrangers going. 2 bar, 32 step patterns. Some FX The preset sounds are good. No chords I think. Such good fun. It’s limitations are it’s strength.

De door Apple verstrekte informatie over deze app klopt helaas niet, want hij is NIET compatibel met de iPhone! Graag een fix!

Like another reviewer I only saw / remembered this when I bought Flynth earlier (note to dev, please don’t make any more apps that make me sound like I have a terrible speech impediment), and I’m glad I gave it a whirl. I found myself quickly wishing I had more control over the synths and maybe some of the drumkits in DM1, but then I just as quickly realised that this isn’t really its purpose. If you’re just looking for a backbeat to get some ideas going this is really quick and easy. Only seems to have MIDI out on the iaa version atm, which is a bit of a disappointment, but I’ll keep the five stars up in case it gets added because although it’s not exactly Drambo, it has its own niche, does its own thing and does it well.

I didn’t bother with this app for a long time. I’m fairly serious about making music with the iPad and thought this was a silly, cheap toy. I took another look at it today (when I downloaded Fingerlab’s new synth, Flynth), and thought “for £3.99, I might as well get it”; and I’m really glad I did. It’s a neat little groovebox with enough features to make a track or two. There are a lot of features missing with this, but no showstoppers. In fact, the minimalist nature of the app forces you to focus on the joy of making music rather than being consumed by the serious technical process. This is a fun groovebox that will surprise you and bring back the fun of music making. For the price of a coffee and a bun, it’s a bargain.

The beauty of this app is its simplicity. Working with a limited pallet means the focus is on creativity.

Hi, I love this App, it is awesome. But how can I add more than one Lead ? I really need to add more than one Lead. Because the already saved note will be replaced if I add new one in the same Lead. Please help. Thanks.

Ok, ok... I’m starting to like this app now. It’s power comes from its simplicity. Speaking of star rating - I think it only makes sense to give rating that are not absolute because how do you compare this app to much more complex, bigger, more advanced and perhaps more suited for professionals apps? I’m rating it as a simple, approachable app. It does have tons of limitations and you probably won’t create your new album in but as a simple musical tool it is pretty good. Much improved version with full MIDI implementation. Great MIDI options with very easy and intuitive MIDI mapping. I love that sub divided steps are represented by unique MIDI notes. Now DM1 needs this feature! Nice interface, clean and well laid out. Super straight forward and intuitive to use. I appreciate small things such as ability to set the metronome volume or no nonsense mixer and effects panels. Some negatives remain: Ability to go “off the grid” in terms of quantization is needed. Nothing kills the vibe more than being restricted to 16 steps. Gotta swing! No polyphony for Bass and Lead tracks. It would be so great if polyphony was somehow possible. Maybe via multiple layers per lead and bass tracks? There’s still a bug where some notes sometimes are ignored completely depending on specific BPM. Weird. Why would anybody use that instead of DM1? I have a difficulty figuring out who this app is really for. It does not have enough capabilities to be used by a serious musician and is perhaps too minimalistic and dry to inspire an enthusiast. Maybe it’s for kids? As such, it could be pretty good as it is very intuitive and does not have flashy things which are a distraction to kids.

This is one of my favorite music making apps, however, as of the last update, the app has been malfunctioning. Also, I’ve had issues connecting my Korg NanoKey Studio via Bluetooth. After these issues are resolved, I can be in love again. I support any build based on Audiokit Pro, and I hate giving anything less than positive reviews.

The AU's UI should be larger; the buttons are far too small even on a 10.5 inch iPad. Timeline Mode should not be switched off when selecting another pattern to edit; that way, multi bar patterns can play while being edited. And this may be fixed in the next update, but the AUv3 is incapable of MIDI out. It's so close to being something I would use every time I'm making music, so I hope Fingerlab will make these improvements. I love being able to select a note with the keyboard and then place it in the grid, while editing drums.
