Please note that EMA can only be used in conjunction with a subscription-based Web Application Service. Modernizing Medicine introduces the first native iPad application designed for medical surgical specialities — EMA by Modernizing medicine for iPad. Each relevant part of the visit can be recorded in real time by the patients in the waiting room and by the medical assistants, physician extenders, or physicians in the exam room. At the end of each patient visit, data is transmitted back to the server automating documentation without costing the doctor a second.}

I’ve had the application for years. What I like about it is that it facilitates my photo documentation using the iPad or iPhone. However what I do not like is that the notes that the system generates uses bland, impersonal and borderline infantile language. It would be embarrassing and disastrous if one had to defend medical decision making in a legal setting using their cookbook chart note. Therefore I need to edit (rewrite) the history, impression and elements of the plan in order to maintain my professionalism. I do my operative notes in (Microsoft) Word and copy and paste them into ModMed. The suggested codes are usually accurate, but you always have to double check. The company does not respond to suggestions on how to improve the software, so I have given up on asking.

Why is it that every update for “bug fixes and improvements” create more bugs and decrease efficiency? Can’t we leave it alone already- if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!!

Having used multiple EMRs since 2005, I can honestly say this is one of the worst. Super expensive, clunky and totally not intuitive from a user standpoint. Oh and front and backoffice software stinks as well. This makes me long for the days of pen and paper. All EMRs are laborious but look elsewhere than this because anything is better.

As a young doctor who has used a few different EMR’s. Modmed is by far my least favorite. The billing can be nice but the lack of customization is frustrating. No matter how much they tell you that you can customize it with “protocols”. They are difficult to change. If you’re considering modmed, save yourself a lot of money and lot of headaches and keep searching.

Let’s face it. Electronic medical records have made practicing medicine a bit more complicated. Conversely, they have also eliminated a lot of the bologna associated with paper charting. That being said, Mod Med is a fantastic alternative to many of the other record systems I have used in my career. I spend significantly less time on charting and more time with my patients and family and less time in front of the computer screen is a win for me.

Not only is the software below medical par, just about everyone you speak to from the salesman to the project manager is like dealing with a shady used car salesman. We would have gone with a different software if we knew what kind of software and company this is.

30 years of practice, and still independent, from hand written notes to dictation and 3 different EMR’s, yes a glitch here and there but whoever is writing a bad recommendation has no clue what one dealt with in the past, good luck trying to find another EMR to satisfy legal and billing standards and IT support, thx mod med, Derm Center of Shelby.

I dread working with this program every day. The amount of clicking and loading is maddening. The fact that it is easy to make text in the impression and plan notes disappear with a click is frustrating beyond end. This is a reasonable program if you see very simple patients, but any complexity makes creating a note time-consuming and frustrating. The program has had the longest learning curve of any EMR I have used. I’m 3 years in, and I continue to think it is a lousy program.
