Do you enjoy word puzzles? Have you wondered and waited for a word puzzle in your own Shona or Ndebele Language?
Mazwi and Amazwi are two word puzzles rolled into one. Taking words from the Shona and Ndebele Languages respectively, Mazwi/AMazwi are games that challenge your knowledge of the mother tongue - both in remembering what words exist and how they are spelled!
Mazwi/aMazwi also provides a platform for the player to learn the meanings of certain words, some of which have two or more different meanings based on the context in which they are used. The meanings of most words are given in their shortest possible forms. The player is challenged to explore further meanings of some words.
Both dictionaries used in this game provide for endless, non-repeating play. A Word is chosen at random at a time and is kept as a secret. The player starts by guessing and typing a five-letter word. At the end of each line, the player presses “Try”, and all the correctly positioned guesses are highlighted in green. Correct letters typed in the wrong position will be highlighted yellow, while incorrect letters will be grayed out. Subsequent guesses are, or should be guided by these letter colorings and provide a platform to logically guess your way toward the correct Shona/Ndebele word. The player has six attempts available, each scoring differently. After six incorrect attempts, the game engine reveals the correct answer and play continues with a new secret word. If the player correctly guesses the secret word, points are awarded according to the number of attempts needed - fewer attempts score higher!
The player can switch between Shona and Ndebele by going into settings from the top left corner and then choosing the language. Click anywhere on the screen to be taken back to gameplay.
Mazwi/aMazwi are games in progress. The author reserves the right to change some word meanings or the inclusion/exclusion of some words to preserve the original intention of making the games palatable to the wider audience. Some vulgar words have been omitted intentionally from the game's dictionaries.
